Firecore's line lasers run green, at 505–520 nm. The human eye is far more sensitive to that part of the spectrum than to red, so on a lit wall or a bright room the line simply reads better without any extra power going into it. Every laser in the range is a Class II product (IEC/EN60825-1/2014) rated at 1 mW or less.

Accuracy is published per tool rather than as one blanket figure. The AA-powered 360° cross line holds ±1/17 in. at 23 ft; the rechargeable 360° models and the F93 hold ±1/13 in. at 33 ft; both rotary kits hold ±1/8 in. at 100 ft; and the FC-32N optical level reads to 1/16 in. at 100 ft, with a standard deviation of 1.0 mm per kilometre on a double run. Check the figure against the job before you choose.

Yes, but with a detector. The outdoor ranges quoted for these tools — 147 ft, 197 ft, or 1,969 ft in diameter on the rotary kits — are the ranges a receiver can read the beam at, not the distance you will see a green line with your eyes in sunlight. That is why the outdoor kits ship with a receiver rather than selling one separately.

A line laser projects fixed planes you can see on a surface — ideal indoors for tiling, cabinets, shelving and flooring. A rotary laser spins a single dot into a plane that a receiver picks up hundreds of feet away, which is what makes it the tool for foundations, slabs, drainage falls and site grading. If the work is inside a room, the line laser is usually the right answer.

Most likely, because the range sticks to the industry threads: 1/4-20 and 5/8-11. The FLP370C pole carries a 1/4-20 mount with a 5/8-11 adapter, the FLM60A bracket mates a 1/4-20 male thread to both 1/4-20 and 5/8-11 sockets, and the FC-32N optical level sits on any standard 5/8 in. tripod. Check the thread stamped on your own tool and match it.

About 8 hours on the 4400 mAh line lasers, roughly 15 hours on the FRL300R rotary laser, and 24 hours or more on the dual-slope kit, which ships with two packs. On the line lasers you can stretch that further by dropping line strength to 75 or 50 percent — which also draws a thinner, sharper line for detail work.

The line lasers and the FC-32N optical level carry an IP54 rating, and the dual-slope rotary kit is rated IP55. That covers site dust and splashing rain, not submersion. The rotary lasers also add a vibrate mode that locks the head so wind and nearby plant do not knock the self-leveling out.

The rotary lasers use electronic self-leveling: disturb the tripod and the head re-levels itself automatically rather than quietly projecting a wrong plane. The line lasers flash their beam continuously when they are tilted beyond the self-leveling range, so an out-of-level condition announces itself instead of ending up in your work.

For hanging, tiling, shelving and flooring inside a home, a 360° green line laser with a tripod covers nearly everything. Add a receiver kit once the work moves outdoors — fences, decks, shed bases. Step up to a rotary kit when you are setting falls and levels across a whole site. The torpedo level and the SDS chisel are the small tools that end up earning their place alongside any of them.
